What is a chemical peel?

A professional solution is applied to your skin so the top layer exfoliates and renews. Peels can help with uneven tone, age spots, freckles, dullness, fine lines, rough skin, and some types of acne.

What does a peel feel like?

Most people feel warmth for a few minutes, then a mild sting. Your esthetician can cool the skin to ease it.

What’s the downtime after a light peel?

Skin is pink like a mild sunburn, then may flake for 3 to 7 days. Makeup is usually fine right away or the next day. If you have photos or an event soon, tell us before you book.

How many peels will I need?

Light peels are often done as a series of three to five, every 2 to 5 weeks.

What are the possible side effects?

  • Redness, stinging, flaking, and dryness
  • Temporary darkening or lightening of the skin
  • Redness that lasts longer than expected (uncommon)
  • A flare of cold sores if you get them
  • Scarring (rare)

Who should check first?

Tell us if you’re pregnant, get cold sores, have keloids or scar easily, or have taken isotretinoin in the last 6 months. Your provider will review your health history at your consultation.

What’s the peel aftercare?

  • Use a gentle moisturizer until your skin heals
  • Wear sunscreen every day
  • Don’t pick, scratch, or peel flaking skin
  • No tanning beds
  • Call us if your skin burns, itches, or swells

What is dermaplaning?

Your esthetician uses a sterile blade to gently remove the outer layer of dead skin cells and fine facial hair (peach fuzz). Skin feels smoother right away.

What does it feel like, and is there downtime?

You may feel light scratching, but it usually isn’t painful. Skin can feel a little sensitive for about a day.

Will the hair grow back thicker?

No. It grows back the same; it may feel coarser at first because it was cut bluntly.

How often can I dermaplane?

About every 4 weeks.

Who should skip dermaplaning?

Wait if you have an acne breakout, an eczema flare, a rash, or another active skin condition.
