FAQs
Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) with SkinPen
Collagen induction therapy (CIT) with SkinPen uses fine needles to make tiny channels in the skin, which starts its natural healing process. It begins with a complimentary consultation in our medspa.
How much does CIT cost?
CIT with SkinPen starts at $450. The consultation is complimentary.
How does it work?
The controlled micro-injuries prompt your skin to make new collagen over time.
What is SkinPen cleared to treat?
SkinPen is FDA-cleared to improve the appearance of facial acne scars in adults 22 and older and the appearance of wrinkles on the neck.
What does it feel like?
A numbing cream goes on first. Most people feel light pressure and a mild buzzing.
How long does it take?
About 45 minutes, plus 30 minutes for numbing.
Is there downtime?
Expect redness like a mild sunburn that usually fades in a day or two. Most people return to normal activities within 24 hours, and makeup is usually fine the next day.
How many sessions will I need?
A series spaced about 4 weeks apart, then maintenance. Results build gradually, often over 3 to 6 months.
Who shouldn’t have CIT?
- Anyone with active skin cancer, open sores, or irritated skin in the area
- Anyone allergic to stainless steel or numbing medicines
- Anyone with a bleeding disorder
- Anyone who is pregnant or nursing
- Anyone currently taking isotretinoin
Also tell us about active acne, cold sores, keloids, rosacea, eczema, diabetes, blood thinners, or scars less than a year old. Your provider will review your health history at your consultation.
What’s the prep and aftercare?
You’ll get Ardan’s printed prep and aftercare at your consultation. In general:
- Stop exfoliating products about a week before
- Stay out of the sun until your skin heals
- Wear sunscreen every day once your skin has healed
How is CIT different from Potenza?
Both use microneedling. Potenza RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy and is a separate service.
